Special Education Support

The APEIS of La Salle Avenue Elementary serves in this role daily with a focus on developing collaborative general and special education instructional programs and meeting special education compliance obligations, including ensuring that the legal requirements for the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process are met, IEP mandated services are delivered and monitored, and appropriate instruction and services are provided to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.

La Salle Avenue Elementary offers three special education programs.  We offer a Specific Learning Disability (SLD) special day program that supports students in lower grades, a SLD special day program that supports students in upper grades, and a Resource Program.  Our SLD special day programs cater to students whose nature or severity of disability may impede participation in the general education program for the majority of the school day.  Our Resource Program provides instructional supports and services to students who are assigned to a general education classroom for the majority of the day.  Students who are in the Resource Program receive services from a resource specialist teacher either in a collaborative basis with the general education classroom teacher or a learning center model.

It is the mission of the APEIS to provide guidance and support to La Salle Avenue Elementary in order to maximize learning for all students within an inclusive environment so that all students have a sense of understanding and compassion for others.
