Library

Here at La Salle Avenue SDL Elementary we believe that readers are leaders! Our Library Aide, Ms. Elizabeth Fenner, is available to students Mon-Fri for weekly class trips and library visits at recess, lunchtime, and after school. Students can borrow two books at a time, and Ms. Fenner joins all teachers and school leaders in recommending daily silent reading time.

Our goal is not only to motivate students to read but to introduce diversity and variety, so every week different books and subjects are displayed around the library that highlight different interests and focus areas. In addition, Ms. Fenner presents lessons when classes visit for their weekly library time take place to support the school-wide thematic units.

Our library serves as an extension to all the learning happening in the school community including School Celebrations and Math/Literacy Family Nights.

It is very important for students to understand how important the library is and just how much of a role they play in the upkeep and order of their school library, a new program will be starting entitled: Library Volunteers. Two scholars from each classroom in grades 2-5 will have the opportunity to serve in this role during recess time in which they will help with tidying the shelves, assisting students with choosing and checking out books, and decorating library displays. Students will be selected by their teachers and must exhibit leadership, respect, work-ethic, and must wear their school uniforms.
